There will also be a Senate Election in 2010 which may effect the Democratic majority in the Senate, but as things stand in 2009, the Democrats have a filibuster proof majority due to Al Franken finally being granted the Senate seat in Minnesota. Franken was engaged in one of the longest Senate races in the history of the United States, having contested court battles with the incumbent Norm Coleman due to how close the race actually was (it came down to under 1,000 votes.  Coleman’s last 5 court ruling were rejected by the Supreme Court of Minnesota, and Franken was finally allowed to take his seat in the Senate after over 6-months of legal issues.
